There is no other way to "undo" or restore the original values if what you're trying to do doesn't work out. Some Modules require a valid Login before you can re-code them. Certain other programs always leave a tell-tale WSC when you re-code a module. By default, this will remain unchanged unless you have set up an Importer Number in the Options screen.

Up to 20 lines of coding chart data can be included in a Label File. This data is shown in a balloon on the coding screen. VCDS can show coding "charts" when appropriate information is available in a Label File for the control module in question. A balloon will appear after a few seconds if the Label File contains the appropriate information:. Coding of Slave Modules. On the latest cars, many "slave" modules are codeable. The coding screens both regular and "long" will present a drop-list of available modules which can be selected for coding:.

This function is available in all Gateways that support an Installation list and is explained on the Installation List Page. Long Coding. This function is needed to Code some control modules in the newest cars which use CAN for diagnostics.

Soft reset can be checked to prompt the control module to "reboot" itself after the change has been made. In some cases this or cycling the ignition is needed in certain UDS modules before changes take effect.

Click on each of the Byte numbers in row 3 and you'll see the selectable options below. Check or Un-check the boxes for the desired results. In some cases, there will be a drop-down menu that assigns the correct bits for more complex operations that require multiple bits to be changed.

Use the [Do It! If an uninitialized control module warning appears, this means that one or more of the WorkShop Code, Importer, or Equipment numbers are all zeros. Since some modules will not allow you to Save Coding values unless non-zero numbers are in any or all of those fields, VCDS shows you this error when it thinks this might be the case. If you click [No] then VCDS will try using the values currently stored in the module even if they are all zeros.

Follow the instructions on the screen to locate the index number for the airbag controller: As long as the Index entered is valid and documentation exists in the appropriate label file, the new Coding either short coding or Long Coding should be entered into the Soft Coding field: Coding of Slave Modules.

I have a warning light fault codewhich is an Instrument cluster fault, and it won't ever clear. I haven't noticed any warning light stop functioning, and I guess I'm saying it doesn't bother me--yet. But I would like to fix this. I do not want to get into messing around with the instrument cluster too much, because I've seen the immobilizing and key reading problems that have come up after people have replaced various things in there.

Are there any easy things I could check first?

The fuse is okay. TDI s : Passat silver sold after 11 yearsJetta atlantic blue. Ross-Tech wiki says to check fuse s -no mention of which ones. Check wiring and connectors to the cluster. Then check the bulb.

Then replace the cluster. I'd certainly try the first two. I can't find the bulbs locally. So the instrument cluster investigation will have to wait.

I'm guessing it is 8 in the cluster, since I haven't seen that one light up in recent memory. The Check Engine Light is, on my B4, on the far right, and is yellow. If that helps. If you can find a wrecked gasser, I'd bet that a cluster from that would have a functioning bulb you could use. Auto recycling centers can be helpful. I'm sending my son to a dealer to get the bulb.

I guess it will be a Christmas project! My VCDS doesn't find any 17 group for instruments, or for any immobilizer. I get the warning light malfunction from scanning the engine. Last edited by Rig; December 21st, at The ecu does a check of the system, and CEL should come on with key-on. Since it's a part of the emissions, you wouldn't be able to pass smog in CA if you don't have a functioning CEL on key-on.

I assume Alaska doesn't have the smog requirements we have here, but it would be nice to have that item functioning. How else would you know you have a glow plug code?Ross-Tech is not responsible for any damage or problems that may result from following these instructions.

The steering was noticable heavier which suggests the assist has been deactivated I'm guessing. J Labels: 6Rx Module Labels: 6J J Labels: 1K Any help very much appreciated!

Joined: Jan 7, Messages: 10 Likes Received: 0. So, did you manage to sort this out? I think so as I've not had the problem reoccur. I cleaned and re-greased the battery connections and earthing points on the nearside inner wing. The earthing points seemed amazingly corroded for a 5 year old car. I also checked the loom under the air filter housing where it infamously chafes on a bolt head.

It was fine but I cut the excess thread of bolt down anyway to prevent this happening. Since clearing the fault codes there's been no reoccurance of the issue and it's been a fair few months so fingers crossed.

Thanks for your answer. I just asked because I noticed that your steering assist coding was changed from default and was wondering if that had anything to do with this problem. I manually changed that for a bit more weight to the steering. It's still on the light side but better than standard. You must log in or sign up to post here. Show Ignored Content.
